What's in a Name?
The heritage of our chemical business is in the former Upjohn Company, who was known as a leader in steroid manufacturing technology. Over the years, we have gone through many corporate transitions. In 1995 the Upjohn Company and Pharmacia AB of Sweden conducted a "Merger of Equals" forming Pharmacia & Upjohn Company. In this process The Upjohn Company changed its name to Pharmacia and Upjohn Company and all registrations, holdings and other assets changed to list Pharmacia & Upjohn as well. Through subsequent transactions, namely the merger with Monsanto to form Pharmacia Corporation, and the recent acquisition by Pfizer, the legal entity holding the Kalamazoo plant and associated registrations remains "Pharmacia & Upjohn Company". Pharmacia & Upjohn Company is wholly owned subsidiary of Pfizer Inc. PCS is a business unit of Pfizer Global Manufacturing, a division of Pfizer Inc.
